Discounting can be effective in some cases but it can also become like a drug. Your customers get trained to wait for discounts, and discounting makes your brand or business seem like it is devalued. Every time you need to re-invigorate sales you have to go back to lowering prices to get your fix. This sucks! Don’t do it!

Especially if you use discounts to compete with other brands or businesses, it can easily become a race to the bottom where the winner ends up with slashed prices and the loser ends up out of business. Remember Walmart VS Kmart? Boarders VS Amazon? Don’t even compete in a price war race to the bottom.
